Finished my "Phlox Field" Painting

I've been having a difficult time finishing this painting because I've been spending more time doing Plein Air work. My flowers are bursting out everywhere, and all I want to do is paint them. So, I've been working on this in my studio on the rainy or colder days--and there hasn't been too many of those.

Iris Time in the Garden

One of my favorite times of year in my garden is when the Iris start blooming, and here in Virginia that time is now! Like other Spring flowers, they don't last very long, but long enough to get my painting of them. Below is this seasons...

Started a Larger Painting - "Phlox Field" -24" x 30"

Oil on canvas

I decided to start another larger painting today of a field we came across that had this winding creek with the bright pink Phlox growing along its edges, leading up to an old lonely barn.

Today I worked at getting the composition down, along with the value shapes and overall tones of the different areas. I've decided to use Cobalt Blue instead of my usual Ultramarine, along with Terre Verte, Alizarin Crimson, Cadmium Medium and Light and Burnt Umber. Just the beginning, but a pretty decent start.
